CONTROL’s BIGSOUND 2018 Picks

Bianca Holderness

BIGSOUND 2018 looms, and so does our ever-growing party fear as we gear up for the week’s events, including our BIGSOUND Ping Pong Smackdown III and a DJ set at Oxford Art Factory x Woolly Mammoth’s ‘Indie Mixer’. As we plan out our overflowing timetables, we thought we’d share just a few of our picks from showcasing artists. (We’re super excited for just about the whole line up, but we can’t be here all day can we?)

GENESIS OWUSU (CANBERRA) - SHOWCASES

WHY: Ghanian-Australian Genesis Owusu is still in his teens, making sophisticated, introspective music that’s impossible to pigeonhole. Latest single ‘awomen amen‘ completely bowled us over.

WAX CHATTELS (AUCKLAND) - SHOWCASES

WHY: Part of the Captured Tracks fam, self-proclaimed “guitarless guitar band” Wax Chattels have been copping rave reviews of their very loud, very raucous live shows. We’re ready.

KWAME (SYDNEY) - SHOWCASES

WHY: Another teen making us feel under-accomplished, Kwame’s music warms our ice cold hearts. His debut Endless Conversations EP back in March was one of our favourite Australian releases of this year.

SWEATER CURSE (BRISBANE) - SHOWCASES

WHY: We’ve seen Sweater Curse’ incredbile live show a bunch of times already, but a bunch is not enough! Monica’s voice is HEAVENLY.

ARNO FARAJI (PERTH) - SHOWCASES

WHY: 18 year old (!!!) Arno Faraji has developed such a strong identity and sound for his young years, only moving from strength to strength.

CLEWS (SYDNEY) - SHOWCASES

WHY: We’ve been completely sucked in by CLEWS’ first single ‘Museum’ and we have just GOT to hear more.
