Today we premiere the latest single and video from Quivers, ‘You’re Not Always On My Mind’.
The guitar-pop project of Tasmanian Sam J Nicholson, Quivers’ latest offering is a heartening his first release since debut LP We’ll Go Riding On The Hearses in 2018. Teaming up with producer Matt Redlich (Holy Holy, Ainslie Wills, Ball Park Music), Nicholson’s trademark jangly guitars, propulsive drums and honeyed vocals are elevated in his most hi-fi release to date, still dripping in nostalgia. Nicholson says of the track, “I wanted to write a simple song, just four quick chords and a slow realisation. I think I somehow stole the lyrical idea from Kylie Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” - that a song might be trapped inside just one thought. And in that one thought there might be everything. That’s how good that Kylie song is anyway.”
‘You’re Not Always On My Mind’ also arrives accompanied by a music video directed by Nina Renee and set amongst the stunning wombat-populated convict ruins of Tasmania’s Maria Island, as Nicholson attempts to sample his surrounds. Having recently relocated from Tasmania to Melbourne, Quivers, recently joined by Bella Quinlan (bass), Holly Thomas (drums) and Michael Panton (lead guitar), will set off for a string of SXSW showcases next month.
