A round up of some of our favourite new releases from the month of April and what you should to know about them.
Hot Chip / I Need You Now
‘I Need You Now’ is the second single off Hot Chip’s sixth studio album Why Make Sense? due for release via Domino on May 18. Why Make Sense? follows 2012’s critically acclaimed In Our Heads LP and every copy of the album will be 100% unique, with both the CD and vinyl LP to be created in 501 different colours, with subtle variations of the design, meaning every copy of the album will feature completely unique artwork. The accompanying video for ‘I Need You Now’ was directed by Shynola and tells the story of frontman Alexis Taylor dealing with the aftermath of a break up and ultimately battling himself.

Melbourne audiovisual duo friendships are back with new single/video ‘Monarch To The Kingdom Of The Dead’. The video was created by visual half of the duo, Misha Grace, in collaboration with Melbourne based artist Ami Taib, and uses footage taken from the streets of Footscray, Melbourne.

North London’s Gengahr have just announced their debut album, A Dream Outside out on June 12th via Liberator Music. The band will take stage at Splendour In The Grass 2015, and have announced a string of Australian sideshows.

Lucy Rose / Our Eyes
English singer-songwriter Lucy Rose has returned with new single ‘Our Eyes’. As a friend and fan of the band she toured with Bombay Bicycle Club and sang on their records A Different Kind of Fix So Long, See You Tomorrow. Lucy Rose has supported Neil Young in Hyde Park and taken stage at Glastonbury Festival, her latest offering will be released in Australia May 3.

Pearls / Pretend You’re Mine
Pearls latest single/video offering, “Pretend Your Name” is the title track from their debut album Pretend You’re Mine which was released worldwide in February 2015 via Dot Dash / Remote Control Records. The band will perform a string of national dates in support of Alpine.

Darts / Aeroplane
Darts new single ‘Aeroplane’ off their debut album, Below Empty & Westward Bound due for release May 15. The band will be hitting the road this June supporting Alpine on their national tour as well as playing their own album launches.

Blur / Lonesome Street
One of the biggest UK bands of the last two decades, Blur have returned with new single ‘Lonesome Street’ off their eighth studio album ‘The Magic Whip’ out now. Blur will return to our shores for the first time in 18 years for Splendour In The Grass as well as a performing a string of arena sideshows in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.

King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard
King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard have just released latest track ‘The River’ Their forthcoming LP Quarters, out May 1. The 12” record will be released on limited edition vinyl, containing only four songs, each 10 minutes and 10 seconds long. The accompanying cover artwork, produced by long-time collaborator Jason Galea, is a 4-way design hand painted by Galea and printed on 350 gsm reverse board sleeve with gold foil font. The wax is 180-200 gram gold vinyl placed in 12′ black poly lined bags. The release is just in time for King Gizzard’s Gizzfest beginning this weekend – tickets still available via moshtix, oztix, Factory Theatre and Corner Hotel.

Tsun / Indo Chaudhuri
Latest single from the Gold Coast’s TSUN Indro Chaudhuri was recorded in the mountains of Mullumbimby with former Wolfmother drummer Dave Aitkens as producer. The band formed in 2012 and have supported the likes of Ariel Pink and Pond, and will be hitting the road next month for a string shows next month in support of the single in Brisbane, Byron and the Gold Coast.

Twin Caverns / Truth
Sydney electronic duo Twin Caverns have just released new single ‘Truth’, the last single off their debut EP, Glass Balloon. Comprised of 23 year old Louise Millar and Michael Macias, their EP was written and recorded in a bedroom studio within Sydney’s Inner West. It was mixed by Jack Prest and mastered by Ben Feggans (who are collectively known for their work with Flume, Willow Beats, RUFUS and Flight Facilities) at Studios 301.

Portland, Oregon’s Guantanamo Baywatch recently performed a string of shows on East Coast of Australia and have just released new single ‘Do What You Want’. The second single of their forthcoming album Darling… It’s Too Late, will be out out on May 15th via Smack Face Records & Create / Control.
