To celebrate Sydney’s Volumes Festival, artists from this year’s line up have collaborated to create a series of remixes of each other’s work, resulting in new friends and new unique reworks of songs we all know and love. Earlier this week we premiered Body Type’s collaboration with The Ocean Party and MEZKO. Today we premiere another two Volumes remixes – Hatchie’s ” remixed by Gauci, and Fortune’ 501s’ remixed by The Goods and Wallace. We had a chat with Hatchie and Gauci ahead of this weekend’s festivities.

Fortunes ‘501s’ – The Goods & Wallace remix.

HATCHI

How does it feel handing over your musical child into another artists hands?
It’s cool! The songs I have recorded for Hatchie have all involved some level of collaboration with a producer, but this is the first time I’ve handed something over with no real idea of what to expect. Giving someone access to hear every element of a track can be a bit daunting, but Gauci is made up of some super talented friends so I knew it was in safe hands. I think they knocked it out of the park!

If you could ask any artist to remix one of your tracks, who would you ask?
I’d love to see how dark The Horrors could make my music sound.

What is your all time best and worst remix/mash up?
My favourite at the moment is Kylie Minogue x New Order – ‘Can’t Get Blue Monday Out of
My Head’. Seriously, give it a go.
I have a love hate relationship with that latest mashup album Mouth Moods by Neil Cicierega. Listening to it makes me feel like I’m going insane but I can’t say I’m not impressed.

Who are you looking forward to catching at Volumes?
I’m really excited for Body Type, Straight Arrows, Exhibitionist, Willaris K and of course Gauci.

How do you prepare for a live set? Do you have any rituals or tips?
One thing I’m always careful not to do is too much day drinking before playing. I’ve learnt my lesson from some sloppy sets over the years. As a punter I usually decide on a couple of sets I really badly want to see rather than trying to run around and see every single band I like, to avoid the disappointment of wasting time travelling between stages and only seeing
snippets of each one.

Hatchie ‘Try’ – Gauci remix

GUACI

If you could ask any artist to remix one of your tracks, who would you ask?
Diplo, Skrillex, The Chainsmokers and Flume all huddled around a 13″ Macbook with Ableton Lite.

What is your all time best and worst remix/mash up?
Tik Tok Remix (Ke$ha feat Pitbull, Black eyed peas, Lady gaga, akon)

Who are you looking forward to catching at Volumes?
Gold Class, Hatchie, Jonti, Lucy Cliche and Orion.

How do you prepare for a festival set? Do you have any rituals or tips?
Stretches, lots of stretches. Also practice. Loads of practice. Tune the laptops. Gotta get them sounding hot. Ritual wise – I don’t think there are too many, I guess we hang out just the three of us right before we play, keep the mood pretty high and have a couple of beers. Also Antonia usually goes into the bathroom with her headphones and does some vocal warmups, so you can catch her in there belting it out to the mirror. The main tips I have to give for a festival set is have fun, and keep cool – it gets hot up there under the lights. Hydration is important, but rocking out is key.
